“Strong candidate for the Chelsea job” – Top insider’s latest update puts in-demand coach close to Blues move

Last night was a very strange one for Mauricio Pochettino’s job prospects. On the one hand it was a really huge win. With our backs against the wall, with a bench full of teenagers, with his hands tied by injuries and against our biggest rivals, he dug out a win and a really impressive performance.

Yet the interview with Sky after the game was notable awkward, with the Chelsea boss unable to confirm whether he would be manager next season, or even really who was making the decisions.

It certainly didn’t do much to stop the rumours about his future continuing to flow. Today German reporter Christian Falk has dropped in to his exclusive Daily Briefing with news that former Bayern and Germany boss Hansi Flick is being seriously considered by Chelsea.

“Flick is a strong candidate for the Chelsea job,” Falk writes.

“He is very keen on having a job in the Premier League… Chelsea is very interesting as he talked with the club after Frank Lampard was sacked.. I think this topic can get hot.”

Flick’s candidacy – just a shiny new toy?

It’s been pointed out before that the managers fans want – much like the players they want signed – tend to be the ones who they have seen less of. The moment a manager has failed in the Premier League, fans lose interest, and want the latest rising star who is yet to have a difficult patch.

Flick’s only failure so far was with Germany, and that can be excused as an international job, which are always treated a little differently. He still has the “shiny toy” look, as opposed to more humble candidates who have been in the league long enough to have had ups and downs.

But that shine wears off fast, and Chelsea fans backing Flick should be careful what they wish for.
